Hello December!

December…the most wonderful time of year!

A favorite time of the year for many of us, December usually brings warm feelings of Christmas memories from our childhood, like drinking dad’s homemade eggnog, hunting, family visits or making cookies with mom to share with friends and neighbors.

December is a special time because we get to celebrate the Christmas season. We gather with our loved ones and enjoy shared meals, exchange gifts, or watch classic Christmas movies that warm our hearts, but we must remember the reason we celebrate - the birth of the Christ child, Jesus.

"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." (Isaiah 9:6)

It is a time of giving. We can give our time, help someone in need. We should reflect God’s love for us back to others in need around us.

"In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35)

Maybe it is taking an elderly neighbor grocery shopping or to a doctor’s appointment. A food basket for a family in need. Cooking a meal for someone who is sick or just had a baby. Offering to help get their Christmas tree and decorations down from the attic. Or it could be just spending time with someone who does not have family around.

Not all families get to spend Christmas together. Remember our oil & gas workers who may be gone for weeks or months at a time away from home. We must also remember our military, some of which are deployed and who cannot all be home with their families. In addition, we should remember the many first responders, doctors, nurses, linemen, and those working to provide service and support us.

Make this Christmas a special time and make a memory that will be cherished and passed down to your children and grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. And finally, remind them of the reason for this season. May God richly bless you all.

Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas!

Your friends and family at Stokes & Spiehler.
